Fleet size and authorisation wording on A&D entries — reading only
Vehicle and trailer figures on Applications & Decisions entries are the public record of how much authorisation an operator sought, holds, or lost — split by operating centre on multi-site fleets. SME hauliers read these lines when tracking competitors, objecting to nearby depot increases, or checking their own variation published in the weekly PDF. Literacy only — not fleet planning advice.
Authorisation vs operating centre address
Do not conflate place wording with fleet numbers:
- Operating centre — where vehicles may be parked — see authorisation vs operating centre.
- Authorisation figures — counts of goods vehicles and trailers permitted at that centre or in total.
- Licence type — SN, SI, R — see licence-type abbreviations.

Multi-centre splits
When an operator lists two or more operating centres on one entry, each row may show its own vehicle and trailer counts. Quote the edition exactly — HaulageBrief does not aggregate centres unless the published table already totals them. Centre changes publish under variations — operating centre change wording.
Status words change the meaning of figures
“Application received” with “5 vehicles sought” is not a fleet of five on the road — see A&D status words. A grant line in the decisions section may show different numbers from the application block — read both and cite the decision when quoting what the operator holds.
Objection clock context
Authorisation increases often publish with a 21-day objection window — 21-day objection clock. Fleet size wording alone does not state the deadline; read the section heading and date line on the same entry.

Does authorisation sought equal vehicles currently running?
Not necessarily. The published entry records figures on the application line — sought, granted, or curtailed — as printed. Compare status words and decision sections before assuming fleet size.
How do multi-centre fleets appear on A&D?
Operating centres may each show vehicle and trailer numbers. Total authorisation is read from the entry layout for that edition — cite the table as published, do not merge centres without source.
